Lunch is usually served between 12:noon - 3:pm
Dinner is served between 7:pm -10:pm

Many restaurants are closed between lunch / pranzo (PRAHN-zooh) 
and dinner / cena (CHEH-nah)

Café / Bar: (info and photos)
Start your morning off with breakfast "colozione" (Sicilian) "colazazioni" (koh-lah-tseeh-OH-neeh) 
with a cup of "Cappuccino" or a variety of "Espresso drinks" and pasties at a café / bar. 
 Pasticceria / Pastry Shop: (info and photos) You can also have breakfast  at a 
Pasticceria (pah-steeh-cheh-REEH-ah)
 If they have cafe tables you can enjoy some mouth-watering goodies with your coffee.
The most famous and sought after sweet/duci, the "Cannoli".
Gelateria /Ice Cream Shop: (info and photos) Serves homemade ice cream,
 Gelato (geh-LAH-tooh ) in a variety of scrumptious flavors.
 Also, don't forget the  Spumoni and Lemon Ice. (History of Gelato)

Trattoria: (trah-tah-REEH-ah). For  lunch - dinner / Pranzo - Cena (PRAHN-zooh / CHEH-nah). 
Usually a family-run restaurant with home-cooked style meals. The menu will vary depending on 
what area of Italy you are in. Prices are  less expensive than a regular restaurant.  

Ristorante / Restaurant : (reeh-stoh-RAHN-teh) is more formal with tablecloths and waiters. The menu has a wider selection of food to choose from. And of course then you have all those dinner courses.

Locanda / Country Inn. One of the priciest restaurants in Venice calls itself Locanda Cipriani
and one in Lake Como Locanda dell Comacina

Autogrill: Rest Stop, roadside snack bar  on the Autostrada.  

Enoteca: A wine bar featuring local wines you can taste by the glass. You can also purchase by the bottle. Some places sell light snacks to go with the wine.

Osteria: Casual tavern that serves home-made  or local wines and food .

Panini / Bread Shops: Panini (sandwich) made from a small loaf of bread, ciabatta (cha-BAHT-ta) stuffed with cold cuts, sometimes grilled. Our version of "submarine sandwich".

Paninoteca: Sandwich bar where sandwiches are made to order.

Tavola Calda (Hot Table) / Snack Bar: :Popular with locals. Serves hot foods cafeteria style. Reasonably priced and good for those who fear ordering “the wrong thing” you can see everything and just point to it.

Rosticceria: Roasted chicken to take-out. Some have tables for eating.

Pizzeria: This may be a take-out or have a few tables. But the pizza will be baked in a real oven.

Pub / Birreria: Like an American or British bar or pub, variety of beers on tap and cocktails and other alcoholic beverages
